Talk About It– Rosa & Rosita
Watch this video to learn how Rosita and her mom, Rosa, use media as a tool to connect with one another.
As a parent, one of the most meaningful things you can do for your child is to express curiosity about what they’re interested in. Asking questions and listening closely to children’s answers can transform small moments into opportunities for connection. That applies to screen time, too! When you “tune in” by asking questions about what children are seeing, learning, or doing with media, you can learn about what delights your child and help to support their learning. This makes managing kids’ digital habits a lot easier and more fun for everyone.
In this video, we see Rosita and her mom, Rosa, talk about the show Rosita is watching. Their conversation sparks special memories for Rosa and leads to screen-free play.
Watch the video together with your children, then ask some playful questions of your own:
- What would you do if you had a cape that made you invisible?
- Can you show me how you’d tiptoe past the dragon?
- Can I tell you about one of my favorite shows from when I was little?
One way to support digital well-being is by openly talking about how we use technology in our day-to-day lives! Besides asking questions about your child’s media use, tell them about your own, too. Describe or narrate the ways you use technology to help you throughout your day: looking up recipes on a tablet, taking video calls for work, using a keyboard to write an email, listening to a book to learn or music to relax. These tidbits of information can help children learn more about you. Digital well-being in families is all about balancing technology use with real-world connection!
