It can be hard to share information with a child’s parents when we speak different languages. Consider some of these strategies:
- Welcome families. Smile and show families that you recognize their importance in a child’s school readiness. If possible, learn some key words in their language, as well as cultural norms involved with saying hello and goodbye. Introduce families that share the same language.
- Use technology. Use language apps to translate texts or e-mails.
- Use visuals. Using photographs, children’s artwork, and video will help you share information about children’s strengths and needs.
