Feeling Worried
When children feel worried, grown-ups can help them feel safer, calmer, and more secure.
Children may be having some big feelings, like worry and anxiety. But there are ways you can help them talk about their feelings and provide a sense of safety and calm.
- Before watching the video with your child, ask them what they worry about. Explain that everyone worries—grown-ups too. Assure children that you know how to stay safe, solve problems, and ask for help if your family needs it.
- View the video together once. Tell children that Abby is worried, too. Together with children, watch this video to see how Abby and her mom take deep belly breaths to calm down.
- After watching, ask children if they have been feeling worried like Abby. What other emotions can you help them name? Then, practice belly-breathing together.
