Pillow Hugs
A video that shows one way to show affection while keeping a safe distance apart.
Share this video and work through the conversations and activities below.
Before Viewing: Explain to children that together you’ll watch this video to see how Samuel and Julia safely say hello to their dad.
During Viewing: Pause for questions, and talk together about what you’re seeing. Ask, “What do you notice that’s the same in our/your family? What’s different?”
After Viewing: Practice ways you can show affection without touching such as waving, sharing a silly dance, or giving “air-fives.” You might invite children to draw pictures or make decorations to greet their loved one each day, or help children find a comfort item or pillow to hug, like Samuel and Julia do.
