Coming Together Playlist

This curated playlist is perfect for helping children explore friendships, celebrate differences, and build a better future.

As little ones begin to explore their sense of self, they become curious about the world around them and the differences among us all. Our Coming Together Playlist is designed to support them on this journey, helping children learn how to be good friends, cooperate, share, problem-solve, and practice kindness. Healthy relationships—with ourselves, others, and the world—create a foundation for everyone to be the best they can be.

On Sesame Street, each furry, fuzzy, and feathered friend feels a sense of belonging… and you can nurture that same sense for your child wherever you live.

These songs celebrate what we all have in common, and what makes us all unique. Before, during, or after listening, remind children that differences are what make the world interesting! Appreciating diversity starts with appreciating ourselves:

  • Ask children, “What are the most important things about you?” (offer some of your own ideas). Explain that how we look is an important part of who we are, but many important things are invisible!
  • Tell your children why you’re proud of them. Share ways in which you are proud of your whole family. What makes your family unique?
  • Think of someone you know who’s different from you and talk about how you are the same and different from them, on the inside and the outside.
  • Tell children that their skin, eye, and hair color are things that make them special. As a family, sit with crayons, colored pencils, or markers and draw self-portraits or family portraits, and talk about what you’ve drawn.
