A Garden of Support
Communities can tackle big problems by working together!
Watch the video together with children. After you’ve finished, talk about ways to solve big problems. Ask:
- How did the neighborhood friends tackle the big problem of cleaning up the garden?
- Was it something they could do all alone?
- If you had a problem like this, whom do you think you could ask for help?
Discuss what some needs in your own community might be. These might be needs within your family, ways to help neighbors, or bigger projects to tackle in the community as a whole.
As you talk, remind children of things Abby and her friends learned in the video:
- Sometimes, it’s helpful to break big tasks down into lots of smaller ones.
- You can tackle those smaller tasks one at a time.
- There are always people to help you!
