Music has always been a special part of Sesame Street, with fans of all ages enjoying fun, creative, and educational songs in every genre since 1969. Country music fans will love revisiting these 5 amazing tunes from legendary artists both new and old. For 5 decades and counting, Y is for Yee-Haw!
1. Thomas Rhett
In 2019, Thomas Rhett fulfilled a lifelong dream with his first trip to Sesame Street. To celebrate the occasion, our cast of furry, feathered, and friendly neighbors joined him to sing the Season 50 anthem, This Is My Street.
2. Loretta Lynn
Next, we’re throwing it back to the 1980s, when the one and only Loretta Lynn brought her talent and creativity to our neighborhood. Count Von Count joined Loretta to celebrate the power of friendship with Count On Me, a timeless classic that was also featured on the 1981 album, Sesame Country.
3. Mickey Guyton
In 2022, Mickey Guyton visited Sesame Street shortly after making history as the first Black solo female artist to earn a Grammy nomination in a country music category. She helped us kick off Season 53 with the anthem, Community Song, a beautiful tune that reminds us that community is where we all belong.
4. Johnny Cash
Is any country music celebration complete without Johnny Cash? Oscar the Grouch and The Man in Black are a match made in heaven for the clever duet known as Nasty Dan, dating all the way back to Season 5 in 1973. As creative as it is catchy, this song was written by Jeff Moss and performed with Cash by Carol Spinney as Oscar. It’s bound to put a smile on even the grouchiest face.
5. Kacey Musgraves
When Kacey Musgraves visited Sesame Street, Elmo posed the age-old question, “What’s your favorite color?” Kacey’s answer was a lovely ballad titled All The Colors of The World. With a little help from Abby Cadabby, she reminded us that when we’re enjoying all the beautiful things life has to offer, you don’t have to pick just one!
