Sunny Days Song

Join Elmo, Big Bird, and friends to sing “Sunny Day” and see the beauty of Hawaii, from its beaches to volcanic mountains.

In this video Jake Shimabukuro, a well-known ukulele player, plays as a group of children dance around him. The community on Maui works together just like the community on Sesame Street, and we can find natural environments (habitats) where we live, as well.

Curriculum Note: There are different land features (habitats) and living things found in nature throughout the world. By observing and interacting with these habitats, we deepen our appreciation of our natural environment.

Note to parents:

  • The natural environments of Hawaii include mountain terrain, farmlands, and beach coast. These are called habitats.
  • Habitats are natural environments that provide animals with everything they need to survive including food, water, and shelter.
  • Children will better understand the habitats in Hawaii if they can find the local habitats in their own neighborhood.

Before watching: Have your child(ren) explore their backyard or other outdoor areas, and identify the animals that live there.

After watching, lead a conversation with your child(ren) with these questions:

  • What is a habitat? Which ones did you see in Hawaii?
  • What habitats are in your neighborhood? Can you think of the animals that might live there?
  • How are our neighborhood habitats like the ones in Hawaii? How are they different?

Keep the learning going with these activities:
