Measuring Everyday Objects
Measure the length of different shoes and feet with everyday objects.
Play this game to practice measuring using everyday objects! This is a way to measure things “informally.” When you’re done playing, take turns lying down on the floor and using everyday objects like paper-towel rolls, blocks, and shoes to measure each another. Use one type of object at a time to keep the units of measure consistent.
Help kids say the length of their bodies: “My body is the length of four paper-towel rolls.” Compare the number of objects it takes to measure each of your bodies. When you’re done, try measuring other things around you.
