Busy as a Bee
Watch this video to learn more about bees and what they do for the environment!
Bees are often thought of as scary and pesky insects, but they really do wonderful things for us and our environment!
You probably already know they make honey for us to eat, but they also create beeswax that we use to make things like candles, make-up, furniture polish, and crayons! In addition, when bees fly from flower to flower, they help to fertilize plants through pollination. We can thank the bees for our beautiful flowers and healthy fruit, vegetables, and nuts!
Before watching:
- Ask your child(ren) if they have seen a bee and, if so, where and what season it was.
- Have your child(ren) share their own feelings or fears of bees. Then say you are going to watch a Mecha Builders episode to learn about some of the good things bees do.
After watching, ask these questions to start a conversation with your child:
- What did you notice the bee did in the episode?
- Why do you think the Mecha Builders were concerned about the bees?
- What did they do to help them?
- Why do you think that’s important?
