Sesame Workshop and Google Team Up to Launch New Resources to Help Families Navigate a Digital World
(New York, NY, September 27, 2025) Sesame Workshop, the global nonprofit behind Sesame Street, has debuted resources in collaboration with Google to support digital well-being from an early age – from screen time and mindful tech use to fostering family connection and more. With funding from Google’s philanthropic arm Google.org, and guided by experts and informed by research, the all-new content includes videos, activities, interactive games, and parenting articles featuring Sesame Street characters.
Designed to support families of young children as they navigate life in a digital world, the resources will help establish safe and age-appropriate digital practices. Storybooks like Snow Day on Sesame Streetintroduce ways we can connect with each other when we can’t be together, while videos like “Stop, Stretch, and Switch” show how we can move when it’s time to take a break from digital media and transition to non-digital activities. Simple activities offer easy ways for families to set boundaries together, helping children learn balance while still enjoying the fun of digital play and learning.
The new resources, available at Sesame.org/digitalwellbeing, will also encourage families to:
- Notice. Bring awareness to how we feel when using media; encourage mindful use of media.
- Make Connections. Help families think about ways digital media helps them connect with each other and others.
- Switch it. Provide strategies to help children transition off their screens.
- Talk about it. Encourage families to talk about their media use, including discussing when and how they use media in their everyday lives.
- Learn along the way. Help families set boundaries related to media and technology that keep children safe and support the whole family’s well-being.
- Adapt and Ask. Build on the foundation of healthy digital habits to help families foster curiosity, feel empowered to explore new technologies, and continue learning together.
“Caregivers are making great choices about their children’s well-being but sometimes feel guilty about screen time,” said Rocio Galarza, Vice President, U.S. Educational Programs, Sesame Workshop. “Our goal is to support them in their technology use with simple strategies, and to create media that is good for children and their families. It’s not only about how we use technology — why we use it matters, too.”
“Today’s young people are growing up in a connected world that offers incredible opportunities, but also real challenges,” said Maggie Johnson, Global Head and Vice President of Google.org at Google. “We’re supporting Sesame Workshop and supporting New York City educators to ensure that as children grow up in a world with digital media and AI, they have the emotional, social and technical skills to navigate it safely and productively.”
The support is part of Google’s broader commitment to helping children and their families build the foundation for a safe, healthy and productive relationship with technology – from supporting organizations like Sesame Workshop to offering robust parental controls and dedicated features across its platforms that help young people and their families confidently and carefully navigate the digital world.
Following the introduction of the new resources, Sesame Workshop is launching “Raising Kids in a Digital World,” a librarian-led workshop in public libraries across the country. Through the end of the year, children and caregivers will learn and experience fun, educational, and interactive activities around the theme of digital well-being. The workshops will encourage family connection and promote positive tech habits, and each family will take home a “Building Healthy Habits Around Media” toolkit, including the storybook Snow Day on Sesame Street, an activity guide, and stickers. A growing list of participating libraries can be found here.
Google has been a supporter of Sesame Street on PBS KIDS since January 2024, when the series debuted a curriculum focused on emotional well-being, and YouTube, an Alphabet company, recently announced that beginning in January 2026 hundreds of full Sesame Street episodes are coming to the platform, making it the largest digital library of Sesame Street content.
