(New York, NY, September 15, 2026) Sesame Street for Military Families (SS4MF) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the launch of new resources designed to get military families moving, build healthy habits, and strengthen family readiness.

For years, Sesame Street for Military Families, a collaboration between Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, and the Department of Defense (DOD), Office of Military Community and Family Policy, has supported military-connected children and caregivers through the transitions military life can bring. This newest collection of free digital resources continues that legacy by turning movement, play, and everyday physical wellness into something families can build together — no matter where they are.

New this September:

  • An overview video spotlighting two decades of support for military families and introducing a new generation to the resources that started it all.
  • Move with Elmo, a brand-new digital game that gets children and caregivers up and moving together through playful, active exercises designed to fit into everyday routines.
  • A Facilitator Guide and printable activities, giving family support professionals updated tools to help families build resilience, strengthen relationships, and navigate transitions together.
  • Updated website content, informed by military family advisors and designed to reflect the experiences, priorities, and needs of today’s military families.
  • A new social media campaign featuring practical tips, family activities, and simple ways to make healthy eating, movement, and wellness part of everyday routines.

“For 20 years, Sesame Street for Military Families has been a trusted source of support for military-connected families,” said Rocio Galarza, vice president of U.S. Educational Programs, Sesame Workshop. “As we celebrate this milestone, we’re introducing new resources that make it easier for families to stay active, build healthy habits, and spend quality time together. Whether it’s moving with Elmo, trying new family activities, or creating everyday routines, these tools help children grow stronger, healthier, and ready for whatever comes next.”

The new resources promote a whole-family approach to well-being by helping children and caregivers make healthy choices together. Through active play, movement, nutritious habits, and meaningful family interactions, families can build routines that support resilience, readiness, and lifelong health.

Since its launch in 2006, Sesame Street for Military Families has provided trusted, research-based resources developed specifically for military and veteran families. Through videos, articles, digital tools, printable activities, and provider resources, the initiative has helped millions of military-connectedfamilies navigate deployments, homecomings, relocations, grief, emotional wellness, and other aspects of military life.
