
Sesame Workshop celebrates 6 Emmy® Award wins at 3rd Annual Children’s and Family Emmy® Awards
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) honored Sesame Workshop with multiple Emmys® at the 3rd Annual Children’s and Family Emmy® Awards on March 15th.
Fran Brill, the Emmy® Award-Winning puppeteer and performer behind Sesame Street ‘s Prairie Dawn and Zoe, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Brill was one of the first female puppeteers hired by Jim Henson and performed on Sesame Street for over 40 years before her retirement in 2014.
Leslie Carrara-Rudolph won her first Emmy® for Outstanding Puppetry Performer for her performance of Abby Cadabby and Tango on Sesame Street. Carrara-Rudolph has received 7 Emmy nominations in the past and began her work on Sesame Street in 2006.
In addition to recognizing the talent seen on Sesame Street, the Academy also awarded Emmys® for the 54th season of the show. The first episode, “Can They Be Friends?,” received the Outstanding Writing for a Preschool or Children’s Series Emmy® for focusing on the differences and similarities we can celebrate within our relationships. The episode “The Sign Language ABCs” received the Outstanding Directing for a Multiple Camera Live Action Series Emmy®. And the song “That’s Why We Love Nature!” won the the Outstanding Original Song for a Preschool Program award.
NATAS also presented Sesame Workshop with Emmys® honoring recent social impact and outreach work. The video Elmo and Jesse Remember Uncle Jack, which shows the many ways to honor a loved one who has passed, received the Outstanding Short Form Live Action Program Emmy®. The Emotional Well-Being Initiative on SesameWorkshop.org also received Honorable Mention for the Outstanding Public Service Initiative award.
