Sesame Street Season 56 Curriculum
For Sesame Street’s season 56, the spotlight is on Emotional Well-Being – helping kids grow big hearts and happy minds! Through playful stories, songs, and laughter, our furry friends will explore compassion, kindness, and social problem-solving in ways little ones can relate to.
Children’s emotional and social learning and development are all integrated. The coordination of cognitive, emotional, and social skills is all drawn upon to support children’s abilities to understand and manage their own emotions and behaviors, as well as navigate the social scenarios of their worlds and learning environments, ultimately enabling children’s learning.
Through kindness and compassion, children will be able to identify big feelings and then apply strategies to help support themselves and others. Children can also use these skills, such as perspective taking, empathy, compassion, and validation, to resolve social conflicts with their peers.
“With skills like perspective-taking, listening, and cooperation, children will see how even tough moments can be turned into opportunities for caring, connection, and fun,” said Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, Sesame Workshop’s Senior Vice President of Global Education. “We hear time and again from parents who want to give their children the emotional well-being and problem-solving skills they need to succeed in life. This season’s curriculum is designed to meet the moment for families, all in the joyful way only Sesame can.”
Throughout new episodes, Sesame Street friends will invite kids to do strategies along with them, including new body awareness and sensory strategies, designed to inspire kids to replicate them at home off-screen to help manage their feelings.
