(New York, NY, September 3, 2026) Throughout September, Sesame Workshop, the global nonprofit behind Sesame Street, is celebrating one of the most beloved stories in children’s publishing with a multi-platform campaign inspired by The Monster at the End of This Book, bringing Grover’s classic adventure to families through books, streaming, music, gaming, and social media.

More than five decades after first captivating readers, the story continues to delight new generations with humor, heart, and an unforgettable twist. In North America alone, The Monster at the End of This Book has sold around 15 million copies since its 1971 publication. Families can now experience the magic in all-new ways through a collection of releases that invite children and caregivers to read, watch, sing, play, and laugh alongside Grover and his Sesame Street friends.

The celebration kicks off on September 7th with:

  • The beloved The Monster at the End of This Story, an animated special debuting on Netflix and YouTube. The special follows Grover as he does everything in his power to stop the story before viewers reach the end, only to discover a lesson about courage, self-acceptance, and facing fears with the help of friends.
  • The launch of The Monster at the End of This Album, distributed by Warner Music Group’s Arts Music, a collection of songs from the special. The songs “Afraid,” “Courage,” and “Monster at The End” extend the fun beyond the page and screen and give families new ways to engage with Grover’s adventure.
  • An expansion into interactive play with Monster at the End of This Obby, a Roblox experience within Sesame Street Neighborhood Adventures. In the game, players help Grover navigate a series of increasingly silly obstacles as he desperately tries to stop them from reaching the end, only for the familiar surprise to be revealed.
  • More joy with The Cookie at the End of This Book, a new Big Golden Book published by Random House Children’s Books and written by Halcyon Person, Head Writer of Sesame Street. Inspired by the classic story, the interactive adventure follows Cookie Monster as he races through the pages in pursuit of the treat he is convinced awaits him at the end of the book.
  • An adventure with Grover as he re-lives his famous journey one post at a time through a social campaign that includes a digital re-telling of the original story, clips from the special, memes, original content with the live-action Grover, and much more.
  • A Monster YouTube playlist featuring a celebrity read-along. Hailee Steinfeld, Lil Nas X, Jason Sudeikis, Ciara, Stephen and Ayesha Curry, and other familiar faces are just as eager to see what’s at the end of the book.

Earlier this year, Chronicle Books released Momster at the End of This Book, made just for moms, and featuring Grover, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and the moms of Sesame Street.

Fans can also bring the story off the page with The Monster at the End of This Book-inspired plush from GUND, apparel, totes, mugs, and accessories from Out of Print, hats from Super Retro, cozy sweatshirt and book sets from Bentex, button-down shirts from RSVLTS, and a newly recorded two-card audio pack from Yoto, available September 10.

“For generations, The Monster at the End of This Book has shown children that sometimes the thing we fear most isn’t so scary after all,” said Aaron Bisman, SVP, Head of Marketing, Sesame Workshop. “Fifty-five years after the original classic debuted, this campaign celebrates the timeless appeal of Grover’s story, bringing audiences and the Sesame Street friends they love together to share in the suspense and excitement wherever stories are discovered today.”

Since its publication in 1971, The Monster at the End of This Book has become one of the most cherished children’s books of all time and a defining part of Sesame Street’s storytelling legacy. This latest campaign celebrates the enduring classic while creating new opportunities for children and caregivers to experience Grover’s humor, warmth, and sweet trepidation together.
