2025 Impact Report

The world needs Sesame. And Sesame needs you.

Sesame is a lifeline for families in uncertain times, delivering joyful learning all children need — whatever the future brings.

This year we reached more families than ever in our 56-year history, delivering research-based lessons and targeted support. See how we’re helping the next generation grow smarter, stronger, and kinder… with support from friends like you.

Our Mission in Action

Another year of tremendous impact, thanks to our supporters.

Reaching and teaching more children than ever.

This fall, Sesame Street began airing on Netflix, through a distribution deal that extends our reach to millions of children worldwide. Sesame Street also remains available on PBS Kids, continuing our legacy of bringing critical early learning to children across the U.S. for free. And, starting in 2026, our expanded partnership with YouTube will open the largest free digital library of Sesame Street content available anywhere.

Reach alone doesn’t create impact — it’s care, craft, and expertise that make us the gold standard in educational media. And none of that would be possible without philanthropic support.

Big leaps for little learners.

Sesame Street’s 56th season launched in November with a reimagined format designed to be even more engaging and educational. According to new research, children who watched Season 55 saw notable gains on a host of social-emotional measures. Season 56 continues the focus on emotional well-being, with richer storylines, new segments, and direct-to-camera character interactions—all proven to deepen children’s learning.

Rays of sunshine on the cloudiest days.

Sesame stepped up for families coping with unprecedented disasters, delivering comfort and child-friendly resources in the aftermath of wildfires and floods across the U.S. Featuring friends like Abby and Elmo, our bilingual resource kits made a scary situation easier to handle, so families can better support each other in the moment and feel more prepared for the unexpected.

New York Life Foundation
Easing grief in a child’s life.

With a $1.5 million grant from New York Life Foundation, we’re extending a comforting hand to children coping with death and loss. New online resources guide families through the journey of managing big feelings and remembering loved ones. One highlight of our collaboration is Growing As We Grieve, an award-winning digital experience that helps grieving families begin to heal.

Lego Foundation
Leveling up Play to Learn.

2025 concludes our 5-year, $100 million partnership with LEGO Foundation to unlock the power of play for children affected by conflict. Our latest efforts help support and scale the field of early childhood education in crisis zones. A new Watch, Play, Learn Toolkit empowers practitioners to integrate evidence-based early learning into humanitarian programs globally. Now, LEGO Foundation has extended its support of Play to Learn through 2028 to help us scale successful early childhood models in Bangladesh and the Middle East.

Help keep our momentum going.

Sesame Street is unlike any other children’s program. From the beginning, we’ve been driven not by profits, but by our nonprofit mission: helping children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. That promise of impact is made possible by philanthropic support. Your dollars help Sesame produce high-quality, research-based content and bring support to families who need us most.

When you partner with Sesame, you invest in learning that makes a life-changing difference for children everywhere.

Supporters & Partners

Visionary partners power our mission to help children grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. Thanks to their financial and strategic support, Sesame Workshop is reaching more families, educators, and community providers today than ever in our history.

Partners In Impact

Partners In Impact

Collaboration powers our mission-driven work around the world. Meet a few of our amazing partners from the past year.

Children laughing while looking at a tablet.

Google.org

When it comes to children’s healthy use of technology, many parents feel unsure where to turn. That’s why we’ve partnered with Google.org, the philanthropic arm of the technology leader Google, to help families build healthy digital habits and make informed tech choices within their unique circumstances. Our new resources equip parents and providers with practical tools to support children’s development, enhance overall family well-being, and prepare children to grow up smarter, stronger, and kinder in an increasingly digital world.

Morgan Stanley Foundation

The needs of young children are too often overlooked in the wider mental health crisis. That’s why the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health is expanding its work focusing on early detection and prevention. With support from the Alliance, Sesame Workshop is partnering with early childhood networks that serve marginalized communities — including Head Start programs and Family, Friend, and Neighbor (FFN) care providers — to help identify and manage signs of emotional distress and increase support for children’s well-being across their circles of care.

Department of Defense

Sesame Workshop has worked with the U.S. Department of Defense to support military families for nearly 20 years. In 2024, we built on this foundation by creating new tools that support the emotional well-being of children and adults alike and refreshed our project visuals to reflect diverse military families. Sesame Street for Military Families  continues to celebrate military life and reflect the transitions and milestones that today’s military families experience.

USAID Iraq

Sesame Workshop is partnering with USAID to produce Ahlan Simsim Iraq, a program promoting inclusion, mutual respect, and understanding across ethnic, religious, and sectarian groups. Our work includes digital outreach and local TV broadcasts to families, tools for caregivers and teachers to promote early learning, and opportunities for Iraqi youth to meaningfully engage in community dialogue.
